How to make Firfir | Ultimate Recipe guide | Ethiopian food

There are different ways of preparing a given dish. And it is unique for everyone. But the one thing we can agree upon is most of the steps needed to produce the output are almost the same. Therefore, in this recipe section, we are going to give you our own way of preparing Firfir.

The required ingredients are:

  • Injera (Ethiopian bread-like food)
  • 4 sliced onions
  • 1-3 sliced tomatoes
  • Oil
  • 2 spoons of Berbere (Ethiopian spicy ingredient)
  • Boiled water
  • 1 tea spoon of ground garlic
  • Aframomum corrorima
  • One half (1\2) spoon of salt
  • Two pepper
  • 1 tea spoon butter

Steps:

Step 1, You Fry up the pan in medium heat.

Step 2, You pour some oil on the pan.

Step 3, Then you add four sliced onions and mix up with the oil till it changes its color a bit.

Step 4, You then add two spoons of Berbere (Ethiopian spicy ingredient) and mix up again.

Step 5, Then you pour a small amount of boiled water and let the ingredients mix up for 3 minutes.

Step 6, You then add three (or as you wish) sliced tomatoes to the mixture. Tomatoes are used to sweeten the Firfir and have a good taste.

Step 7, After you have mixed all the ingredients, you add 1 tea spoon of ground garlic, Aframomum corrorima, and one half (1\2) spoon of salt.

Step 8, Mix all the ingredients in a good way so that all the elements blend in very nicely.

Step 9, To make your Firfir tastier you can add 2 pepper and 1 tea spoon of butter.

Step 10, Add a small amount of boiled water. And let the mixture absorb it.

Step 11, Put off the heat and add your sliced Injera (Ethiopian bread-like food).

Step 12, Mix the Injera with all the ingredients.

Step 13, Your Firfir is ready. And you can serve it with an Injera on your plate and your Firfir on top. Have a nice meal.

All the steps take about 20 minutes. And you will have your Injera ready.
